How to plan your wedding day timeline around golden hour
The softest light of the day lasts about an hour. Here is how to build your wedding timeline so you do not miss it.

Golden hour is the time just before sunset when the light turns warm, low and flattering. It is when most of my favourite couple portraits happen, and it is easy to plan for.
1. Look up your sunset time first
Before anything else, check the sunset time for your venue on your date. Golden hour starts roughly 60 minutes before it.
2. Plan 20 minutes away from the party
Slip away between courses or just after dinner. Twenty quiet minutes together is plenty, and many couples say it is their favourite part of the day.
3. Build in buffer time
Speeches overrun and dinners start late. Leave a little slack around golden hour so the light does not slip past while you wait.
Tip: winter weddings have early sunsets, so consider couple portraits before the ceremony.
