Bali Beyond the Beach Clubs

Rice terraces, water temples and quiet villages in the north and east of the island, away from the crowds.

Budget travel, done honestly

Every cent we spent, written down.

We track every bed, bus ticket and bowl of noodles, then publish the full breakdown with each guide. No guesswork, no "from $30 a day" fairy tales, just what a trip really costs for two.

  • Daily budgets for shoestring, comfort and splurge styles
  • Where to save and where it is worth spending
  • Free trip budget spreadsheet with every guide

How we write a guide

From the first bus to the final edit.

Nothing is copied from a brochure. This is how a destination earns its place on the blog.

  1. Go slowly

We spend two to six weeks in each place, on local transport and our own money.

  2. Keep receipts

Every cost goes into the budget sheet, from dorm beds to the airport taxi.

  3. Test the route

We walk the itineraries ourselves and cut anything that is not worth your day.

  4. Re-check each season

Prices, opening hours and transport are reviewed at least once a year.

I joined the Kyoto small-group trip on my own and left with nine new friends. Unhurried, thoughtful and never touristy.
