A five-minute breathing practice for anxious days
Longer exhales tell your nervous system it is safe to relax. Try this simple practice anywhere, any time.

When we feel anxious our breathing becomes fast and shallow. Slowing the breath, and especially lengthening the exhale, is one of the quickest ways to feel calmer.
Find a comfortable seat
Sit on a chair or cushion with your spine tall and shoulders soft. Rest one hand on your belly.
Breathe in for four, out for six
Inhale through the nose for a count of four, feeling the belly rise. Exhale slowly for a count of six. Repeat for five minutes.
